Deer Hunt At Abington Park This Saturday

Abington Township officials said the first deer hunt will begin at Alverthorpe Park on Tuesday evening.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The township has approved two controlled deer hunts for this week, with the first on Tuesday evening and the second on Saturday.

Township officials said Alverthorpe Park closed at 3 p.m. on Monday for the first deer hunt and was expected to reopen at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The controlled archery hunt began at 4 a.m. on Tuesday and was expected to conclude at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

The second deer hunt is planned for the same time on Saturday, township officials said.

Closure signs will be posted at all park entrances in advance.

The Abington Township Police Department will be on site before, during, and after each hunt to ensure public safety. Officials said that all wooded areas will be secured and inspected before the park is reopened.

"The deer management program is performed by competent, experienced, and carefully screened archers who follow strict safety protocols," officials said. "We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as the township works to responsibly manage the deer population and maintain the safety of park users and surrounding neighborhoods."

No firearms or guns of any kind are used in this program, officials said.
