2 Jenkintown Students Named National Merit Finalists

Jenkintown Middle/High School seniors ​John Byler and PJ Schloth have exceeded academic expectations, the school's principal said.

JENKINTOWN, PA —Two Jenkintown students have been selected as finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition

John Byler and PJ Schloth, both seniors at Jenkintown Middle/High School, were recently named finalists in the rigorous competition, school officials said.

School officials said the national recognition is a testament to the students' hard work and commitment to their studies.

“John Byler is one of the finest students we have had in Jenkintown during my tenure as principal," Principal Tom Roller said. "He has exhausted all of our advanced placement offerings and has taken numerous college courses during his time at Jenkintown."

Roller said that Byler is one of the most respectful and kind individuals in the school community. He has excelled in our athletic program as a runner and has served as a leader in other clubs and organizations.

“PJ came back to Jenkintown from Abington Friends School for his junior year and quickly immersed himself in our small school learning environment," the principal said.

Schloth challenged himself with AP and college classes. In addition, he has starred in Jenkintown Theater Arts’ Productions and has served as a leader in other co-curricular activities, the principal said.

"We congratulate both of these young men on their success, hope that they are named winners of National Merit Scholarships, and look forward to seeing their impact on the world beyond the walls of Jenkintown Middle/High School," Roller said.
