ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —A township mother is reaching out to the community for help after she said her son was struck in a recent hit-and-run while riding his bicycle along Old York Road.

Mandy Leigh posted on the Abington Neighbors Facebook page that her son was crossing Old York Road into the Michael’s store shopping center from Rockwell Avenue at 3:45 p.m. on July 19.

Leigh said that an older woman with white hair in a silver car used the right turn lane on Old York Road to go straight, striking my son on his right leg. Leigh said she ran the red light while doing this.

The woman then rolled her window down, paused for a moment, shouted some rude comments and profanity, and then drove away, she said.

"If you saw this happen or you know the driver, I ask you to do what is right," Leigh said. Say something. There are dents from my son’s body on her front end driver side of the car."

Leigh said anyone who doesn't want to reach out to her on Facebook should contact the Abington Township Police Department, where she has filed a police report.

"Thank you to our APD officers. Thank you to the women who saw it happen as they left a store and checked on my son. Thank you to whoever called 911, APD responded immediately," she said. "Thankfully my son walked away from it."
