Abington Ranked 49th Best School District In PA

ABINGTON, PA — West Chester has been ranked the 30th best school district in Pennsylvania for 2019-2020.

The ranking was released Monday by data compiler Niche, which analyzes various educational statistics to prepare ratings on both public and private institutions.

Abington placed just behind Souderton (44th) and Jenkintown (43rd) while finishing ahead of Upper Merion (53rd).

Niche gave Abington an A rating overall. It also received A letter grades in the following individual categories: Academics, Teachers, College Prep, and Clubs and Activities.

To arrive at the rankings, Niche looked at data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as test scores, college data, and ratings collected from Niche users. (You can read more about the methodology here.)

The top-ranked school district in Pennsylvania is Tredyffrin-Easttown. You can see the top 100 here.

More than 60 Niche users have weighed in on Abington School District, providing a variety of feedback and reviews.

"Abington offers many academic opportunities from AP art classes to hearty bands, orchestras, and choirs, to extensive science and history class opportunities. Overall, course options are well-rounded, and teachers do their jobs well. Abington fields many sports teams, both men’s and women’s, and frequently reach district or state competition levels. Elementary schools have some issues with managing student behavior, but the junior high and high school squash issues as quickly as possible. Guidance counselors strive to help their students find a match college and work to help students access desired classes and succeed in daily life. The senior high building is old, but will be renovated starting in 2019," one reviewer wrote.

Another added: "Since seventh grade, the Abington School District had provided me with an amazing education. The helpful teachers along with the diverse students have made my Abington experience unforgettable. I have been presented with numerous opportunities to show off my talents through an array of clubs and other activities. As I complete my education at Abington, I look forward to seeing what awaits me. I will continuously portray my pride of Abington, as I will always be a galloping ghost at heart."
