Abington School Board & Superintendent Disgraced

The controversy surrounding the $25 Million donation from Mr. Schwarzman and the secretive handling of it speaks to a much larger issue. The one party school board, lead by Mr. McGarry, has forever been and has been seen as a rubber stamp for the whims of the school's administrators. I cannot remember a time when this board has uttered the word "no" to a single request by Dr. Sichel.

This latest fiasco is emblematic of the arrogance elected officials have for the people they represent. Behind closed doors the deals are preordained before the public has any chance to be heard. This deal with the naming rights, curriculum involvement, control of the construction & design process, installation of portraits & family photos, in a public school bought and paid for with hard earned citizens tax dollars must force us to question the integrity of this board.

Time and time again this board has shown it's distain for anyone who would dare question their decisions, or their fiscal responsibility. The extension of and amount of Dr. Sichel's contract is a prime example. Now the Dr. Sichel and the board have been caught red handed making another back room deal without any regard for the people they serve. A transparent, open government, is a joke to these people. While we look for answers all we get are excuses.

The voters of Abington Township have to decide if they condone behavior like this, if they have had enough, or are they willing to take action. I for one would request that the entire school board resign do to their lack of oversight. Their unwillingness to challenge, clearly questionable, behavior by the Superintendent & Board President or their ignorance makes them unsuitable to be on this board. Dr. Sichel should resign as well, immediately. Absent the board doing the right thing, the only thing the voters can do is to remove them from office on election day.

I might add that for 40 plus years living in this township, paying my taxes, there are no signs baring my name on any school building, no portraits, and I am never asked about the curriculum or anything else school related.
