ABINGTON, PA — The Abington School District has been added to the list of area districts announcing a full return to a regular five-day, in-person instruction school week, albeit with an optional learn-from-home component.

Superintendent Jeffrey S. Fecher announced in a note to families on Monday that the district plans to conduct business as usual when school begins on Sept. 9, but that parents of those concerned over COVID-19 still have the ability to tap into a virtual open through the Abington Cyber Education program.

Fecher wrote that since his last update to district families in June, additional COVID-19 related guidance has been released by the Montgomery County Office of Public Health that contains recommended practices with regard to safe school operation.

He also reminded families that they have the opportunity to weigh in on the district’s proposed health and safety plan for the upcoming school year, one that will be debated, and possibly adopted, by the board of school directors during its Aug. 10 regular meeting.

A board meeting agenda for the upcoming August meeting is not yet available online.

Fecher stressed the importance of vaccination as a leading COVID-19 preventative measure, and noted that the school district will offer a vaccination clinic at Abington Senior High School on Aug. 4 and 25 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.mm. for residents 12 years of age and older from both Abington and neighboring Rockledge Borough.

The vaccine that will be available is the one produced by drug manufacturer Pfizer; doses one and two will be available at the clinic.
