Abington Senior High School Named To College Board's AP Honor Roll

Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Fecher​ announced the recognition at the recent school board meeting.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Abington Senior High School was named to the College Board's AP Honor Roll at the Bronze level for the 2024-2025 school year.

At the Jan. 13 Abington School Board meeting, Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Fecher announced that the AP Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening participation.

He said that schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

Fecher commended ASHS students, first and foremost, for committing themselves to achievement and academic excellence. He also thanked the AP teachers at the high school level for educating students in this rigorous coursework and encouraging them to take the AP exams.

The next board meeting is at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 27.

In other school board business:

    • Fecher began the meeting by remembering the life of Leonard Rosenfeld, the former school board president who served on the Abington School District Board of School Directors for 12 years. He recently passed away at age 87. Fecher expressed gratitude for his service and asked that everyone keep his family and loved ones in their thoughts with a moment of silence.
    • Allie Artur, Communications Coordinator, shared a video from 6abc Action News about the full-circle soccer career of Abington Senior High School physical education teacher and boys varsity soccer coach, Randy Garber, from being a player back in 1971, to leading this year's team to the state title.
    The school board approved the retirements of five people:
    • Marla Wormley, Assistant Principal at Abington Senior High School, who has served the District for five years.
    • Karen Miller, a Physical Education Teacher at Abington Middle School, who has served the District for 20 years.
    • Jane Nechin, a Music Teacher at Rydal Elementary School, who has served the District for 41 years.
    • Donna Dzierza, a Bus Driver in the Transportation Department, who served the District for 20 years.
    • Carol Stein, an Aide at Willow Hill Elementary School, who served the District for 19 years.
