The garden was created by the school's Gardening Committee, which is led by McKinley parents.

According to the school district, the Committee "devotes time and creativity to developing beautiful selections of flowering plants, shrubs, bushes, and vegetable plants positioned among bird feeders, a sundial, and a seating spot in the outdoor area between two classroom wings."
