GLENSIDE, PA — "What is happening on Mount Carmel Avenue?"
That was a social media post on Saturday as someone wondered why a sidewalk on Glenside road was suddenly filled with people for hours.
Those people were the crowds who came early to buy the record collection of the late legendary Philadelphia radio legend Pierre Robert.
After selling his Christmas CDs over the holiday season, Vinyl Chickie owner Lisa Schaffer created a special day to sell the WMMR icon's records and compact discs.
Schaffer, who has been in business for less than a year, was not eligible to sell exclusive merchandise for Record Store Day on Saturday.
So she created a special day called "Record Shoppe Day" and created a custom sticker for the outer sleeve of the albums for a personal touch.
Schaffer said that in December she bid and purchased Robert's personal record and CD collection from his home. But she wondered how to present the sale at her store.
"I had nightmares and dreams about it," Schaffer told Patch on Sunday.
Her efforts paid off. Hordes flocked to her record store on Saturday.
"People started lining up at 10:30 p.m. the night before," Schaffer said, adding that her store opened at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Robert's entire collection was gone.
"There isn't anything left," she said. "It was a little more than 350 albums and 250 CDs. It was wonderful. I'm so tired — in the best way!"
