ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — In honor of Earth Day on Wednesday, township officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to showcase some park improvements.
Officials celebrated the $2.4 million in environmental infrastructure improvements along Sandy Run Creek at Roychester Park and Grove Park.
"We are grateful to mark the completion of this project, nearly a decade in the making," officials said.
Officials thanked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for leading the project to stabilize, naturalize, and improve this vital ecosystem in the township.
As a result, stream banks have been stabilized, and erosion has been reduced, wildlife habitat has been restored, invasive species have been controlled, and sections of the creek have been reconnected to the floodplain.
