Full Memorial Day Weekend Events Guide For Eastern Montco

EASTERN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — With America celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, Memorial Day events could have a more patriotic bent than in previous years.

Memorial Day Weekend runs Friday through Monday, with the holiday falling on Monday.

Memorial Day is traditionally a somber recognition of soldiers who died in the Revolutionary War and the American Civil War, fought to establish and maintain freedom and liberty for all, and in every war with U.S. involvement since.

A National Moment of Remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. local time, and Pennsylvanians are encouraged to pause wherever they are for one minute of silence and join other Americans in honoring the men and women who died in U.S. military service.

These are some of the Memorial Day ceremonies taking place in Montgomery County this holiday weekend:

• Memorial Day Flag Festivities Planned At Whitemarsh Park
• Monday, 9:30 a.m. — Wreath ceremony at Veterans Monument Town Square Park on Greenwood Avenue.
• Monday, 10 a.m. — Ceremony at Abington War Memorial Park, 1001 Old York Road (Penn State Abington campus)
• Monday, 10:30 a.m. — Ceremony at Forest Hills Cemetery, 25 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley
• Monday, 11 a.m. — Ceremony at Jenkintown High School
• Monday, 11:15 a.m. — Parade begins on West Avenue in Jenkintown
