ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Fifteen months after a devastating fire destroyed its building, SPS Technologies has broken ground on a new facility.
On Tuesday, Montgomery County officials joined SPS Technologies staff, community members, and local government leaders to dig dirt and celebrate the next chapter in the company's history.
In February, SPS Technologies marked the one-year anniversary of the massive fire that destroyed its company building on Highland Avenue.
Over 70 fire companies from Montgomery and Bucks counties battling the blaze for several days before it was finally extinguished.
The fire quickly grew into a 4-plus alarm event, bringing together fire and emergency units from across Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware, Chester, and Lehigh counties, fire officials said.
For nearly five days — 114 continuous hours — firefighters, EMS personnel, and support crews worked in challenging and hazardous conditions to bring the situation under control.
The company plans on continuing its 120-year legacy of innovation and manufacturing excellence in Montgomery County, officials said.
Officials said the milestone marks the "strength of collaboration" among the community.
