Abington shares renderings of forthcoming middle school, social studies teacher named Grand Prize Winner in county-wide competition (glensidelocal.com) — Abington residents are getting a first look at renderings for the new $285 million middle school, along with details on how its phased-in tax increase will affect homeowners starting in 2026–27. Officials also explained a revised bond structure that cuts projected debt costs by $95 million, and highlighted Abington Senior High teacher Betina Roher’s countywide teaching award and $10,000 in prize funds.
2. Abington man honored for bravely confronting armed intruder, protecting mother (pottsmerc.com subscription) — An Abington Township man has been formally commended for stopping an armed home invasion at his mother’s Horace Avenue residence in Abington, preventing more serious harm. County officials honored him alongside officers and other civilians, while the two men involved in following the victim home from Parx Casino and attempting the robbery have now received lengthy prison sentences.
3. Citadel Awards More Than $100,000 to Teachers, Schools for Heart of Learning's 25th Anniversary (montco.today) — An Abington High School social studies teacher has been named Montgomery County’s grand-prize winner in Citadel Credit Union’s Heart of Learning Awards, bringing $5,000 for the teacher and $5,000 for Abington High. The long-running program honored more than 30 educators across the region this year and has opened nominations for the 2026–27 awards cycle.
4. Police: Delco man stole $1,400 pellet stove from Warrington Lowe's (bucksindependence.com) — Abington Township Police helped identify a suspect after a pellet stove worth nearly $1,400 was reportedly taken from the Warrington Lowe’s without payment. Using a license plate image from store security, officers in Abington later stopped the vehicle in Montgomery County, leading to felony retail theft and related charges against a Delaware County man, who remains presumed innocent.
