CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — The Cheltenham Township Police Department is investigating an incident in which a man entered the high school after hours and had sexual contact with a student.
The incident was the second reported sex crime at an eastern Montgomery County school in the past week.
Lt. Andrew Snyder said a 21-year-old man is in custody, but that police are releasing limited information since the victim is a juvenile.
In an email to the Cheltenham Township school community, Schools Superintendent Brian W. Scriven said an unauthorized adult allegedly entered Cheltenham High School after hours and engaged in sexual contact with a student in a stairwell.
The superintendent said the incident happened on April 29.
School officials reviewed security footage and filed a Serious Incident Report, contacted Childline, and notified the police department.
The student was disciplined and the 21-year-old was arrested and charged with unauthorized entry and illegal sexual contact with a juvenile inside the school."
“While it’s unfortunate that this incident occurred, we are reassured that our recently updated building safety protocol prompted administration to respond in a timely manner,” the superintendent said.
Last week, Abington school officials said they were reviewing safety protocols after two security breaches at Abington High School in which a man had sex with a student.
