1. 2 Charged With 4 Armed Robberies In Eastern Montco (patch.com) — Abington Township police say two Philadelphia men are accused of a string of armed robberies, including a July holdup at the Express Fuel Mart on Jenkintown Road in Glenside. A multi-department investigation tied them to similar incidents across Montgomery County and Philadelphia, and they're currently jailed on high cash bail while facing additional county charges.
2. Jenkintown changes homecoming plans after canceling football season (inquirer.com) — Families near Abington should know Jenkintown School District has scrapped its traditional football-focused homecoming and will instead celebrate around a coed varsity soccer game on Oct. 3. After canceling the football season due to low turnout, the district shifted spirit week, a pep rally, and homecoming court festivities to support the soccer team at the Jenkintown stadium.
3. Jenkintown's first short-term rental request was just denied — but it's not the only Airbnb in town (inquirer.com) — Just up the road from Abington, Jenkintown's zoning board has denied its first short-term rental license, shutting down an Airbnb that often hosted visitors for Jefferson Abington Hospital and family stays. Neighbors raised safety and nuisance concerns, while the owner says guests were mostly professionals and travelers; officials now urge any other local short-term rentals to seek proper approval.
4. Beloved rock drummer shares cancer news: 'Google this stuff, the odds aren't great' (cleveland.com) — An Abington native and rock drummer, John Hoff, has shared that he's battling stage 4 melanoma that has spread to multiple parts of his body. He's beginning immunotherapy treatments and, with strong community support and a successful GoFundMe, is determined to beat the cancer so he can focus on his young daughter.
