"This is a deeply meaningful moment for me. Serving this community has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I am profoundly grateful for the trust, kindness, and partnership you have shown throughout my years on the Board," Hecker said in his letter. "Abington is a place defined by people who care about one another, and being part of that shared commitment has shaped me in ways I will carry forward always."

Patch reached out to Township Manager Christopher Christman, Commissioners Vice President Matt Vahey and other township officials for comment on Monday.

Joseph Rooney, who has run over the years for several township positions, told Patch on Monday that he received several calls and emails about Hecker's resignation.

Hecker stated that in his letter that he is stepping into a new professional chapter as president and CEO of Meadowood in Landsdale in November.

"This will require my full attention," he told residents. "It is the right and responsible path for me to step down and ensure that Ward 1 continues to have the focused representation it deserves."

Hecker said that Abington Township is fortunate to have an "incredible staff" that works well with the Commissioners Board and Township Manager on a daily basis.

He said he would work closely with township leadership to ensure a smooth transition.

"What I will remember most are the conversations on porches and front yards, the neighborhood gatherings, and the residents who reached out with ideas, concerns, or hopes for our future," Hecker said. I have learned so much from you, and I am grateful for every moment of that work together."
