JENKINTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The borough has joined 45 municipalities in the Philadelphia region to get on board with clean and renewable energy.
At its September meeting, the Jenkintown Borough Council approved a resolution to transition to renewable energy.
The 'Ready 100' Clean and Renewable Energy Motion helped Montgomery County reach the 1/3 goal of its municipalities, which represents over 50 percent of the county's population.
Borough officials said that Resolution 2026-19 commits Jenkintown to being a community characterized by equality, health, safety, livability, prosperity and equity.
The borough recognizes the importance of developing a working relationship with its electric energy suppliers to create the most advantageous and mutually beneficial plan for integration locally generated and renewable power.
More than 45 municipalities have approved such a resolution.
They include Abington, Cheltenham, Upper Dublin, Lower Gwynedd, Ambler, Lower Merion, Upper Merion, Lower Providence, Montgomery, Plymouth, Springfield, West Norriton, Whitemarsh and Whitpain townships, Bridgeport, Conshohocken, Hatboro, Lansdale, Narberth and Norristown Boroughs in Montgomery County.
Meanwhile, other communities in Bucks County, and Chester and Delaware counties have also stepped up in setting goals for renewable energy.
