ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Several police officers suffered injuries after a struggle trying to apprehend a suspect who was wanted in nearby Cheltenham for similar incidents.

A police officer reviewed home surveillance footage of the incident and recognized the man as someone he had observed a short time earlier on Jenkintown Road.

He was then located inside the CVS store on Jenkintown Road. As he exited the store, police tried to take him into custody.

Police said that Zahir May violently resisted, resulting in an intense physical struggle and an officer-assistance call.

Several officers sustained injuries during the struggle, including injuries resulting from being intentionally kicked. None of the injuries required hospitalization, police said.

May was also wanted by Cheltenham Township Police in connection with two separate incidents in September involving allegations of assaulting and resisting multiple officers. He was also found to be in possession of a large quantity of suspected narcotics, merchandise reported stolen from CVS, and an airsoft gun modified to resemble an actual Glock firearm.

May is currently being held on charges related to this incident, and from an outstanding warrant from Cheltenham Township.
