The Geekstravaganza of FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is coming

The first Saturday of May every year is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, and this post helps fans new and old navigate how to celebrate.

Next Saturday, May 4th, is a “National Holiday” for Geeks across the globe.

Every year, the first Saturday of May is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, a day that is basically exactly what it sounds like. Almost every single comic book store in the country participates in giving away certain designated comic books for free. (Sadly this means you cannot go into your local comic shop – or LCS – and demand that pristine issue of The Walking Dead #1 and not have to pay for it).  Some stores may limit the number of free books that each person may take while others may not have such restrictions. FREE COMIC BOOK DAY began in 2002 and has been getting bigger and bigger each year since, with many stores also having in-store comic creator signings, artists doing sketches, characters in costume and much, much more.

Key Locations that are participating are:

I will be appearing at the “HEROES UNITED COMIC CON” at ADVENTURELAND in the Voorhees Town Center (formerly known as the Echelon Mall)  in Voorhees, NJ on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY.  Admission is free and proceeds from auctions at the convention will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  Other much more well-known comic creators in attendance will be Tom Raney, Mark Poulton, Dexter Weeks, Paris Cullins and Shawn Alleyne (as well as plenty more).

In addition to FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, two other geek-centric events will coincide with the weekend: the opening weekend for Iron Man 3 in theaters and National Star Wars Day (as in “May the Fourth” Be With You).  FREE COMIC BOOK DAY is a family friendly event that is open to “kids” of all ages, so please be sure to check out the events in your area.
