Bryn Athyn College hosts free mini workshop July 27

'Understanding Stained Glass Conservation' benefits stewards, custodians & advocates for historic glass installations & collections.

In conjunction with Bryn Athyn College’s 2016 Summer Building Arts Workshops in blacksmithing, mosaic, stained glass and stone carving, the College announces a special half-day program for those charged with stewardship of historic stained glass, “Understanding Stained Glass Conservation.”

During the three-hour workshop on Wednesday, July 27, 1-4pm, members of the community who have a special interest in stained glass conservation are invited to learn how historic stained glass panels were constructed, what contributes to their deterioration and damage, how to prevent costly problems and when to call in an expert. Instructors will also offer advice on proper cleaning and routine maintenance and show participants how to prepare a basic condition report and historic survey.

“Often, volunteers in faith communities and staff at historic homes and institutional buildings simply don’t know what to do to preserve and protect the precious glass panels they discover they’re responsible for,” says J. Kenneth Leap, director of the annual Summer Building Arts Workshops program at the College. Learn more: WorkshopsatBrynAthyn.com
