Burglars Hit Homes In Abington Township, Police Issue Safety Tips
Abington Township Police said homes on Holmecrest and Fairacres roads were broken into last week, following a potential trend of break-ins.
ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Abington Township are urging residents to stay vigilant after recent residential burglaries.
One burglary occurred at a home on the 1300 block of Fairacres Road in Jenkinton at about 7:51 p.m. Friday.
According to Abignton Township Police, the burglar got into the home by climbing up to the home's second floor, then broke a window to get inside.

Once inside, the burglar ransacked the master bedroom, stealing items, police said.
When leaving the home, police said the burglar set off an alarm.

Police said just before that burglary, there was another burglary and two attempted burglaries at residences on the 300 block of Holmecrest Road.
The break-in occurred at 7:24 p.m. and was done so when the burglar broke out a back window of the targeted home.
Bedrooms on the second floor were ransacked and items were taken, police said.
Security footage showed two men in hooded sweatshirts and gloves with their faces covered.
Abington Police detectives are trying to figure out if these burglaries are related to other burglaries that have occurred recently in the Meadowbrook section of Abington, as well as other neighborhoods in the Philadelphia region.
All burglaries have had several similarities, police said.
They are:
- All Abington burglaries have occurred east of Old York Road
- All burglaries have occurred in the evening within the first two hours of darkness
- Alarms and security cameras are a deterrence. The burglars have either found a way to bypass the alarm or flee upon activating the alarm
- Suspects conduct surveillance of the neighborhood and chose houses where they believe no one is home
Police said residents should not the following safety and security tips:
- Keep your home well-lit. Utilize timers. Park a car in your driveway
- Set your alarm, and utilize security cameras
- Burglars will normally target the master bedroom. Hide valuables in other areas of the home
- Be alert for suspicious persons and vehicles in your neighborhood. If you see something suspicious, especially around dusk, call 911 and officers will respond to investigate.
