Center School is always looking for creative ways to enhance the curriculum and add hands-on, interactive activities to increase learning.
This past week, Center School staff took part in a professional development and skydiving experience at iFly in King of Prussia to explore opportunities to grow Center School’s STEM curriculum. After participating in a STEM project, the staff members were able to scout out indoor skydiving as a field trip for students by flying themselves. STEM and middle school math teacher Christina Fallstick commented, “This is one of the most exciting ways to connect real world experiences with concepts taught every day in the math and science classrooms and make learning meaningful for our students. Flying in a wind turbine takes learning to a whole new level.” Barbara Cunnane, STEM and lower school math teacher, agrees. “Having the opportunity to preview a field trip like this gives us the ability to customize our lessons leading up to the actual trip. With this insight, we can plan hands-on lessons and create unique activities that will not only meet the learning objectives but also spark some higher-level thinking.”
