Code Blue Alert Extended in Montgomery County

The Code Blue alert, initially issued on Jan. 11, has been extended due to continued cold temperatures in Montgomery County.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A Code Blue alert has been extended in Montgomery County into next week due to expected sub-zero freezing temperatures.

County officials said the Code Blue alert will remain in effect until 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

During this period, temperatures or wind chills are expected to be at or below 32°F for two or more hours. These conditions are considered dangerous for individuals without adequate shelter.

Residents needing emergency shelter or assistance with longer-term housing issues are advised to contact the Your Way Home Call Center at 610-278-3522.

For life-threatening emergencies, individuals should call 9-1-1. Additional crisis resources for housing, utilities, and food are available 24/7 by calling 2-1-1.

The county also reminds residents to check on elderly friends and neighbors to ensure their homes are properly heated.

Personal safety tips include winterizing vehicles with antifreeze, a full tank of gas, and properly inflated tires, as well as stocking an emergency kit. Residents should also check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

When outdoors in winter weather, wearing appropriate clothing and limiting prolonged exposure is recommended. Pet owners should limit their pets' time outdoors during extreme temperatures.

Power outages should be reported directly to utility companies, and residents are reminded not to call 9-1-1 for power outages.
