D-Day Remembrance Ceremonies In Abington Thursday
Two ceremonies will take place in Abington to mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied invasion of Normandy.
ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —Abington Township will commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day with two events on Thursday.
The Abington Remembrance Ceremony will be held from 4-5 p.m. at the Edward R. Micciolo War Memorial Park at 1001 Old York Rd. in front of the Penn State Abington campus dormitory.
The non-political event is sponsored by the Abington Patriots.

D-Day is the June 6, 1944, date when Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in the history of warfare on the beaches of Normandy, France, marking the start of a campaign to liberate north and west Europe from Nazi occupation during World War II.
Meanwhile, the township will commemorate the anniversary with programs at the Abington Township Building, 1176 Old York Rd. with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

The township will simulcast the ceremony at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., at 10 a.m.
Memorial reflections will follow from U.S. Congresswoman Madeleine Dean and State Rep. Ben Sanchez.
Veterans are invited after the event to Sanchez's District Office (directly across the street at 1175 Old York Road) for the Veterans' ID and Homeowner Event cohosted by Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg.
The Friends of the National World War II Memorial will host special activities at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
As part of the ceremony, WWII veterans and representatives from Allied Nations involved in the Normandy Campaign will lay wreaths at the Memorial's Freedom Wall.
The ceremony is a heartfelt tribute to the bravery of more than 2 million Allied service members who participated in Operation Overlord and honors the memory of more than 225,000 Allies who made the ultimate sacrifice.
