EASTERN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA —Montgomery County will collect old, expired, and unwanted medications during a special "drug take-back" countywide event on Saturday.

More than 40 Montco police departments are involved in the annual event, including Abington Township, Cheltenham Township, Hatboro, Horsham Township, Rockledge Borough, and Upper Dublin Township.

All locations will have a drop-off box and will be staffed by police officers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Authorities tab these take-back days as vital in preventing addiction and overdoses, as many drug users first become hooked on opioids due to expired medications which linger in cabinets long after their shelf life.

In addition, holding an official Take Back Day allows residents to dispose of medications safely. Many people flush toxic medications down the toilet, which is environmentally destructive to the water supply.

Accepted items include prescription and over-the-counter tablets and capsules, inhalers and nasal sprays, creams and ointments, pet medicines, and vaping products.
