Founded as a bird preserve, Briar Bush is thrilled to announce that book author Scott Weidensaul visits to personally lead a discussion of—and sign!—his book, Of a Feather: A Brief History of American Birding. Of a Feather traces the hobby of birding—the fastest growing outdoor hobby— in America from colonial times to the present, from John James Audubon to Roger Tory Peterson, father of the field guide. Along the way, he describes the creation of the Audubon Society, and tracks the evolution of the sport to today’s competitive birding with its lists, rarity chasing and Big Year records (not a good thing, he writes). Weidensaul, Pennsylvania native and author of acclaimed books like Living on the Wind and Return to Wild America, is one of the best nature and science writers working today, and Briar Bush is honored to join Wyncote Audubon in hosting him.
