Stone Harbor Heronry

Begin the day with a visit to the Wetlands Institute, a charming nature center with boardwalk access to salt marshes and bay coastline, live animals, touch tanks, exhibits and more. Our second stop will be the small but well-established SH Bird Sanctuary - 21 acres of protected land situated in the highly developed NJ shore. Established in 1947, the heronry is a critical nesting place for a variety of herons, egrets, wading and song birds. We will also pop across to Nummy Island down the street to spot more shorebirds, gulls and other bay critters. Dinner in town and Springer’s Homemade Ice Cream is included on this delightful summer day-trip.
