JENKINTOWN, PA —As part of a year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary, Jenkintown 50 is proud to announce an event set to honor the rich history and vibrant community spirit that has defined the borough over its lifetime.

On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a ceremony will take place to dedicate the newly painted gazebo in the heart of Jenkintown Town Square.

Jenkintown 150 said the project symbolizes "the community's pride and ongoing commitment to beautification and heritage"

The gazebo's renovation —marking the borough's sesquicentennial —is spearheaded by Jenkintown 150, a group formed by the Jenkintown Community Alliance to orchestrate the year's celebratory events.

Leading the painting effort is Joseph Andrew Depman, a dedicated Eagle Scout candidate from Scouts BSA Troop 201.

The project is part of his Eagle Scout initiative, demonstrating a unique blend of community service and personal achievement.

With support from the Borough of Jenkintown, which is providing paint and guidance, the project not only rejuvenates a key town feature but also encourages young citizens to contribute meaningfully to their community.

The dedication ceremony will kick off with remarks by town officials, followed by a ribbon cutting.

Attendees will then be treated to live music by Jenkintown's own Celia DeFazio and a captivating performance by the talented children from Jenkintown Dance Arts.

Depman, a Life Scout, is the recipient of the Bob Gabage Memorial Scout Award, and a senior at Jenkintown High School.

He expressed his gratitude and connection to the borough.

"I am lucky to have grown up in a place like Jenkintown, and I am glad to be able to give back to the community,” Depman said.

He looks forward to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout this spring, marking another significant milestone in his scouting journey.

Ben Bergman, Chair of Jenkintown 150, shared his enthusiasm for the project.

“The gazebo is the logo for J150, and we feel like it's a symbol Jenkintown stands behind and identifies with," Bergman said. "What better way to commemorate our Borough's 150th anniversary than with a new coat of paint on what's become a town landmark.”

The event is just one of many planned throughout the year by Jenkintown 150 to celebrate Jenkintown’s historic milestone.

The community is encouraged to participate and join in the festivities that highlight the enduring legacy and future potential of Jenkintown Borough.

The rain date for this event is Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m.
