Happy Ten Score and Two, Abe !

Today is one very important day on the calendar. It is Honest Abe’s birthday.

I decided to find out more about Abraham Lincoln; I didn’t know how interesting this guy was.  The hardest part for me was deciding what bits of information to share in a short amount of space. 

Honest Abe, born in 1809, was one cool dude.  To learn more about him, I looked over a lot about what he was famous for: speaking. Read these to your kids, friends or family, and talk about what each means. Here are some of his notable quotes from Quotations Page:

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” 

“If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?”

“You can fool some of the people some of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.”

“Whatever you are, be a good one.” 

In addition to these amazing quotes, on Jan. 1, 1863, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation freeing all the slaves within the Confederacy.  You can find out more about he act straight from the White House's website.

I think we should all take a moment to pay our respects to one cool dude on his birthday.
