Highland Elementary has been holding day of service events on Martin Luther King Day for the past six years.

In December, Highland launched a drive to collect donations for the two charities.  Each grade level was responsible for donating the following items:  Kindergarten and first-grade students collected coloring books, crayons and markers; second-grade students collected travel-size games and toys; third-grade students collected toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and shampoo; and fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade students collected canned goods and other non-perishable foods.

Faculty, students and family members assembled the packages on MLK Day, prior to sending them to the two organizations.

Highland’s annual Martin Luther King Day of Service has been officially registered on the United Way’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service website.
