Honor Veterans Day In Montgomery County Friday At These Events

There are several events around Montco to honor those who have served; the rain forecast has already caused organizers to call off one.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — All Montgomery County buildings and facilities will be closed Friday, Nov. 11 to honor Veterans Day, and several events are planned in Montco communities.

The county reminded residents of the closure on Thursday morning. Township buildings and offices will also be closed around the county.

The annual Montgomery Township Veterans Day Procession and Ceremony was canceled due to heavy rains and gusty wind forecast for Montgomery County and eastern Pennsylvania on Friday.

Lower Gwynedd Township is holding its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Friday at 11 a.m. at the township building (1130 North Bethlehem Pike Spring House, PA).

All residents of the township are invited to participate in the ceremony, which will be approximately one hour. The township is marking the time, day, and year World War 1 ended and noted this is the 77th anniversary of the end of World War II, the 72nd anniversary of the commencement of the Korean War, and the 47th anniversary of the conclusion of the Vietnam War.

"Veterans wishing to attend the ceremony and speak are encouraged to spend a few minutes describing their service, explaining what their service means to them, and noting what the community needs to learn and remember about the experiences and sacrifices of those who serve our nation," the township said.

Queen of Angels is holding a Veterans Mass and Reception at St. David Church, 316 Easton Road in Willow Grove at 9 a.m. Friday. There will be a reception immediately following Mass in Father Curran Hall.

Horsham VFW Post 9788 & Auxiliary is holding an all-you-can eat pasta dinner on Friday. Doors open at 4 p.m., and the pasta station is open from 5-9 p.m. A $10 ticket includes spaghetti and choice of sauce, meatballs, garlic bread, and salad.

There is also a ceremony for veterans, and cake, at the VFW at 6:30 p.m. that evening (324 Saw Mill Lane, Horsham PA).

And, Trappe VFW Post 7155 is holding its first Veteran's Day Program and Veteran Benefit Expo in Trappe on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m.

The ceremony’s Keynote Speaker will be Barbara Loncar, Pennsylvania State VFW Junior Vice Commander. Veterans, their families, and all area residents are invited and welcome to attend. Following the ceremony, veteran’s assistance organizations will be available to discuss their services.
