How Much Will Cops Fine You For Keeping Snow On Car?

The windshield is clear and the driveway is down to just a trace of snow. Good enough to get on the road.

But you forgot one thing: there’s 30 inches of snow sitting on top of your car that makes it look like you’re hauling a stack of mattresses.

And no, you can’t leave it there.

In Pennsylvania it’s against the law to travel with snow or ice remaining on the roof of your car, and comes with fines ranging from $200 to $1,000, depending on the variation of offense.

According to Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, motorists who fail to remove all snow from their vehicle could be fined in the lower end of that range. If flying ice or snow causes property damage or injury to others, motorists can be fined up to $1,000 for each offense, the state said.

Some 500 people die annually in the United States as a result of flying ice or snow originating from moving vehicles.
