How Safe Is Abington Township? New Report Ranks PA's 'Safest Towns'

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A new report from website ElitePersonalFinance ranks Pennsylvania's safest towns by measuring violent crime statistics reported since the year's start.

So how did Abington Township stack up against other towns?

First, ElitePersonalFinance looked at the latest FBI crime statistic data, using violent crime as the main criteria. To get calculate scores for towns, the website divided the total number of violent crimes by the population, then multiplying that figure by 1,000.

"This way, safer cities got the lowest score, and those more vulnerable to crimes got higher scores," the website reads. "The cities that did not report crimes to the FBI and those under 5,000 residents were not included in the list."

Abington Township has a population of 55,631 and 44 reported crimes, giving it a score of 0.79.

That score ranked it No. 18 on the list of Pennsylvania's safest towns with more than 30,000 residents.

The data shows the safest towns in Pennsylvania with more than 30,000 residents are:

  5. Hampden Township
