Interim Principal Named At Cheltenham High School

CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA —An interim principal has been named at Cheltenham High School for the 2024-25 school year.

Benjamin Hammond will fill the role for the upcoming school year, Schools Superintendent Brian W. Scriven said.

After two days of robust interviews with highly qualified candidates for the principal position, the district has decided to postpone the search process until this winter break, the superintendent said.

“Naming Dr. Hammond to serve the entire year reflects my confidence in his leadership and signifies my commitment to continuity and stability at Cheltenham High School,” Scriven said.

Hammond has served Cheltenham High School for more than two decades in a variety of roles, including as vice principal for the past eight years.

During his tenure at Cheltenham, Hammond has been instrumental in fostering a culture at the school that supports students’ academic and social-emotional growth, and where students exhibit Cheltenham PRIDE (Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Empathy) in their daily interactions.

He has also played a critical role in expanding course offerings and extracurricular activities, resulting in numerous opportunities for students inside and outside the classroom, school officials said.

Hammond lives in Bucks County with his wife and two daughters.

He earned his doctorate in educational leadership from Saint Joseph’s University. His dissertation was titled “Cultural Ecological Theory and Black American College Male Perceptions: Successful Coping Strategies towards the Community and Educational System Forces Encountered During their High School Years.”

He also has a master’s degree in education from Gwynedd Mercy University and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Albright College.
