Jenkintown Borough Fire Under Investigation
A fire at 603 West Avenue on Monday morning caused extensive damage and led to the rescue of one cat, fire officials said.
JENKINTOWN BOROUGH, PA — A fire that caused damage to a West Avenue apartment on Monday morning is under investigation.
The Jenkintown Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire with assistance from the Abington, Cheltenham, and Lower Moreland fire marshals.
Jenkintown fire and police departments responded to a fire alarm activation at 603 and 605 West Avenue at 7 a.m. on Monday.

Occupants from 605 West Avenue contacted Montgomery County Dispatch to report a fire in a second-floor apartment at 603 West Avenue.
Fire crews found fire and smoke emanating from the second-floor front and side of the building.

The Jenkintown Fire Department, supported by units from Abington Fire Company, Edge Hill Fire Company, McKinley Fire Company, Rockledge Fire Company, and Weldon Fire Company, quickly brought the fire under control.
Fire personnel rescued one cat, which Second Alarmers Rescue Squad personnel resuscitated at the scene. The owner transported the cat to a local veterinarian for further treatment. One other cat died in the fire.
Jenkintown Police Chief Thomas M. Scott and Fire Chief Ken Lynch said the apartment at 603 West Avenue sustained extensive damage.
Adjacent apartments at 605 West Avenue, along with businesses on the first floors of both 603 and 605 West Avenue, experienced smoke and water damage.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to residents impacted by the fire, including potential lodging and recovery support.
