Jenkintown Celebrating 150th School Year

JENKINTOWN, PA —The Jenkintown School District is celebrating its 150th year in operation this year by putting out its first newsletter of some upcoming anniversary events.

"We are excited to share the first newsletter pertaining to our Jenkintown 150 celebration," Schools Superintendent Jill A. Takacs said. "We hope you are able to participate and share in this momentous celebration with us.

Among the events announced so far:

Homecoming 2024

The school district is planning a unique Homecoming in recognition of the 150th Anniversary. Alumni will be invited our alumni back to Homecoming 2024 and to the Homecoming Parade at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 before the start of the Homecoming Football Game at 7 p.m. Alumni will be showcased by the decades.

Career Day

Jenkintown Guidance Department is in the process of organizing a Career Day for the 2024-25 school year for grades 7-12. The event is scheduled from 8:10 a.m. to 11:07 a.m. on Nov. 26. The school district is currently collecting information for potential speakers. School officials are seeking alumni, and parents of current or former students, who may be interested in speaking
and sharing their professional experiences. Anyone interested can fill out the information form. Guidance will collect data and contact interested speakers in the spring. Anyone with questions should contact Ashley Geary, Student Assistance Counselor, at gearya@jenkintown.org.

Alumni Hall of Fame

In celebration of the 150th year of The School District of Jenkintown, the school district will introduce a new award to honor accomplished alumnus/na who have made notorious contributions professionally and/or publicly to better their workplace or at large. Recipients of The Jenkintown School District Alumni Hall of Fame Award will be inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame at Homecoming 2024, which will occur at the Oct. 25 football game. Subsequent inductions will take place at our All Class Reunion celebrations. Anyone deserving of the prestigious award should fill out an information form. The selection committee will evaluate nominations and contact the recipients. The deadline to submit nominations is Aug. 15.
