Jenkintown Hosts High School Art Show Competition
Local students from 25 high schools around the area are competing in the annual show.

JENKINTOWN, PA -- Winners of the high school "Touch the Future" art show competition will be announced at a ceremony on Sunday, April 3.
The winners of the juried show will come from 25 different high schools around the Montgomery and Bucks County area.
They will be hand-selected by Director of Admissions of the Tyler School of Art, Nicole Hall.

The exhibit, sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Education Foundation, Mideastern Region and the Council for the Advancement of Public Schools, will remain open through May 2nd during gallery hours.
Organizers said in an email to Patch that the show began as a way to honor Christa McAuliffe, “the first teacher in space, who perished aboard the space Shuttle Challenger. McAuliffe’s motto was, ‘I touch the future … I teach."

“While facing increasing budgetary constraints, the Touch the Future Art Show is an example of how our public school teachers find ways to bring forth the talents of each student whether in math and science or art and music,” Jim Sando, president of the PSEA Mideastern region, previously told Patch. “The students of our public schools reveal their excellence and extraordinary talents each year, and the exhibition is an opportunity for the communities to see their achievements.”
The following categories are included in the show: Printmaking, Digital Photography, Drawing- Black & White, Jewelry/Metals, Traditional Silver Print, Color Drawing, Fiber Crafts, Digital Imaging/Computer Graphics, 3-D Functional, 2-D Mixed Media, Painting-Acrylic/Oil/ Watercolor, 3-D Single Medium Sculpture, 2-D Design (no digital), 3-D Mixed Media Sculpture
