Knife-Wielding Robber Threatens To Blow Up Montco Bank: Cops

The suspect told bank employees that he would blow the bank up if they contacted the police.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA -- A man wielding a knife stole money from a local bank and threatened to blow it up before being arrested later on Monday, the Springfield Township Police said.

The suspect, a 19-year-old male, entered the Santander Bank at 1401 Bruce Road, in the Oreland section of the township, at about 4 p.m. Monday, according to police.

The suspect was wearing a backpack and demanded money from employees, waving a knife at them and “threatening” them with it.

Employees gave the man money. The suspect then said that he would blow the bank up if the bank employees contacted the police.

He fled the scene on foot and was spotted running on the railroad track nearby.

After a brief search, police found the suspect near the North Hills Train Station and took him into custody.

The knife and stolen money were recovered. There were no signs of explosives on the suspect or at the bank.

It’s unclear how much money was taken.

Several police departments from the area participated in the arrest, including Springfield, Upper Dublin and Abington.

The suspect is awaiting arraignment on charges of robbery and related offenses.
