KOP Man Charged In Elkins Park Shooting Incident

Police said an occupied Cadwalader Avenue home was struck after gunfire near the McKinley Firehouse court.

ELKINS PARK, PA — An 18-year-old King of Prussia man has been arrested in connection with a shooting on Sunday in the Elkins Park section of Abington Township.

Jamell Whitmore, 18, of King of Prussia, was arraigned on Friday by District Justice Maurice Saylor, and bail was set at $500,000 cash.

Abington police officers were dispatched at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday to the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue for reports of gunfire.

Police said that several callers reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing a large group fleeing from the area of the basketball court behind the firehouse.

The preliminary investigation found that a large group had gathered near the court, according to police.

As a vehicle traveled northbound on Cadwalader Avenue, police said, a male from the group ran into the McKinley Firehouse parking lot, retrieved a firearm, and fired multiple rounds at the passing vehicle.

Police said it is not yet known whether the vehicle was struck. An occupied home in the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue was struck by one of the rounds, according to the release.

The investigation by the Abington Township Police Department identified the shooter as Whitmore.

A warrant was obtained for Whitmore's arrest, and that information was shared with the Upper Merion Police Department.

On Thursday, Whitmore was arrested by the Upper Merion Police Department as he attempted to enter his home, according to Abington police.

Police said Whitmore was then transferred to the custody of the Abington Township Police Department and transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

Police said the investigation remains active.
