Man Breaks Into Montco Home 1 Hour Before Court Appearance: Police

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A Philadelphia man has been charged with burglary and more crimes after Abington Township Police said he broke into a Guernsey Avenue home Wednesday afternoon.

Darryl Percy, 61, of Philadelphia, was charged with felony burglary, felony criminal trespass, possession of an instrument of crime, receiving stolen property, and theft by unlawful taking, court records show.

Percy was taken into custody after police were called to a home on the 1800 block og Guernsey Avenue at about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.

A witness reported seeing a suspicious man on the home's porch, and told police they heard glass breaking near the front door.

Arriving police found a broken window on the front door and saw a man inside who tried to run off.

Police said the man, later identified as Percy, was quickly taken into custody.

Police found gloves, burglary tools, a fake police badge, handcuffs, and a bag to the victims' property on Percy.

Percy at 1 p.m. Wednesday was scheduled to appear in court for a harassment charge that police said stemmed from him threatening his former employer.

Police said Percy has a long criminal history that includes a Christmas Day 1992 burglary in Bucks County, as well as other burglaries in Bucks County.

He is being held on $5,000 bail and is scheduled for a Feb. 22 preliminary hearing.
