Man Charged In Stabbing At Willow Grove Mall

A 14-year-old girl suffered lacerations in the mall incident on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A 23-year-old man is in custody after allegedly attacking a woman with a knife in the Willow Grove Park Mall on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Angel Ortiz, 23, has been charged with aggravated assault and related offenses, police said.

Abington Township Police responded at 2:27 p.m. on Wednesday to the report of a 14-year-old girl being assaulted by a man armed with a knife at the mall.

Police officers located the girl who had sustained multiple lacerations from an edged weapon.

Police obtained a description of the suspect and broadcast to responding officers.

A short time later, officers located Ortiz in the 2500 block of Moreland Road.

The investigation determined that the victim and suspect were not known to each other prior to this incident. The encounter began as a verbal altercation before escalating into the assault.

Ortiz was transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.

The victim was transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
