Police Officer Scam Reported In Jenkintown

Jenkintown Police said residents are getting phone calls from someone posing as a police officer and seeking money.

JENKINTOWN, PA —The Jenkintown Police Department has received numerous reports from business owners who have received fraudulent phone calls.

The individual is identifying himself as a Jenkintown Police Officer, and using the name(s) of retired officers. The individual attempts to fraudulently receive payments from the victim under the guise of missed court dates or mandatory payments etc.

Police want to remind residents that police do not collect money for the court in any form or for any other agency.

The public can always verify the legitimacy of police inquiries made via phone by hanging up and calling 911 to have a dispatcher contact our officers.

Additionally, as with any scam never provide personal information to unknown individuals over the phone, police said.
