Protected Bike Route Grant Sought In Abington Twp.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA —The plan calls for protected bike routes.

The township is one step closer to that goal after Abington Township Commissioners approved a resolution at its March 14 meeting to apply for a Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI) grant through the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC).

The $75,000 grant is for a Protected Bike Routes Action Plan.

The township received a $79,847 grant last summer for its Master Bicycle Plan Implementation Project.

The funds are being used to install 6.68 miles of bicycle infrastructure, including signage and road markings.

The bicycle routes within the Abington Master Bicycle Plan Implementation Project have been identified by both the county and the township.

Also on the consent agenda, commissioners:

  • Approved the release of escrow to Galman Residential for $170,980.88.
  • Approved the release of escrow to 521 Moredon Road (Barn/ Addition) for $112,692.50.
  • Approved the stipulation to settle the matter of 1801 Susquehanna Road (Sunrise Assisted Living) v. Montgomery County Assessment Appeals ET AL and authorize Wisler Pearlstine to sign the stipulation on behalf of the Township of Abington.
  • Approved the stipulation to settle the matter of 261 Old York Road (The Pavilion) v. Montgomery County Assessment Appeals ET AL and authorize Wisler Pearlstine to sign the stipulation on behalf of the Township of Abington.
  • Approved the change order from Clipper Pipe and Services, Inc. for $83,722.25 and Electri Tech for $11,452.39 for the Abington Township Building HVAC upgrade project.
  • Approved Amendment 2 to Professional Services Agreement for ARPA funding engagement project PROJ-002669 with Witt O’Brien’s for continued ARPA funding support as necessary.
  • Approved an extension for the agreements by and between the Department of Community & Economic Development for the Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant, which supports the Old York Road/Susquehanna Road project until June 30, 2025.
  • Approved an extension for the agreement by and between the Department of Community & Economic Development for the Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant, which supports the Abington Jenkintown Connection Project until June 30, 2025.
  • Approved an extension for the agreement between the Department of Community & Economic Development for the Multimodal Transportation Fund Grant, which supports the Abington Jenkintown Connection Project until June 30, 2025.
