PSU Abington Student, 18, Killed In Car Accident

An 18-year-old Penn State Abington freshman on the men's soccer team was killed over the weekend.

ABINGTON, PA — A Penn State Abington freshman on the men's soccer team was killed in a car accident over the weekend.

Jaden Truskey, 18, crashed off icy roads into a creek in Ephrata Township, Lancaster County, on Sunday, authorities said.

"Jaden was the true definition of a student-athlete,: Penn State Abington director of athletics Deb Solfaro said in a statement. "His smile and vibrant personality touched many people in his short time at Abington and we grieve for his family, his friends, his coaches, his teammates, and the entire campus community."

Truskey was a native of Ephrata and had graduated rom Ephrata Area High School in June 2018 before enrolling at PSU Abington in the fall.

The school siad that he started all 10 games he played in, and served as a "key member" of the team, which won the North Eastern Athletic Conference title last fall. He finished the season with four goals and nine points.

"This has been a difficult time for everyone associated with the Abington men’s soccer program,” said men’s soccer head coach David Castellanos. "From the first day we recruited Jaden, we knew he was a special player and, more importantly, a special person and that never changed as he excelled on and off the field and in the classroom as well. All of our thoughts and prayers are with Jaden’s family and I am grateful that they shared him with us at Abington."

Funeral services have not yet been announced. PSU Abington said that counseling services will be available on campus.
