JENKINTOWN BOROUGH, PA —The time has come for smashing pumpkins.

Now that Halloween is gone, the Jenkintown Recreation Board will present its annual "Pumpkin Drop" event at Town Square at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Residents are asked to bring their used jack-o-lanterns to Town Square and watch them be hoisted up 105 feet in the air by a firetruck ladder in the Borough's Pumpkin Drop Cage —the only one known to exist in the world.

At maximum altitude, the trap door opens and the pumpkins crash to the pavement below, officials said.

The destroyed pumpkins, and any others brought to the square, will be composted courtesy of Jenkintown's Public Works Department.
