Washington Lane between Township Line Road and York Road will be closed to through traffic on July 8 with the temporary road closure and official detour expected to last until Friday, Aug. 2, officials said.

Officials said drivers should make plans to take an alternate route.

The road closure was required so the contractor could excavate and safely install the underground utilities on this project.

The decision to close the road for the entire period the work will be taking place was made with safety to the general public and contractor's workers in mind as well as to shorten the length of the project significantly.

The PennDOT-approved detour plan was proposed by the contractor's engineer and vetted/approved by PennDOT and the borough engineer.

The official detour plan calls out; limits of disturbance, barricade type/placement, and signage type/placement.

The actual excavation will be taking place between Cedar Street and Walnut Street on Washington Lane. The utilities being improved/installed will assist Jenkintown Borough with storm water runoff in this area.

The project was and will continue to be coordinated with the concurrent storm water project that Jenkintown Borough received a DCED grant to perform in this area.

The borough project has been publicly bid and the contractor is proceeding through the Responsible Contractor Ordinance review so the award can be made, and that project commenced as well.
