This year, the Pennsylvania Department of Aging is distributing $2 million in competitive grants to 45 Senior Community Centers (SCCs) across 26 counties. Gov. Shapiro secured an extra $1 million in his first budget to provide non-competitive grants to hundreds of other SCCs that did not apply for the competitive funding.
These non-competitive grants are designed to support smaller-scale initiatives and will be divided among 392 centers.

"The support from Governor Shapiro and the General Assembly ensures that our Senior Community Centers can continue to serve as social lifelines for older adults," Guenst said. "These centers often provide the only interaction that some seniors have each day, and this funding will help make sure those interactions are meaningful and beneficial."
The grant funding is appropriated by the General Assembly with proceeds from the Pennsylvania Lottery.
