SeaPerch Robotics at Saint Genevieve School!

St. Genevieve's Water Cats are engineers of success!

The Greater Philadelphia SeaPerch and SeaGlide Challenge was held at, Temple University on March 9-10, 2018. Thirty-five elementary schools from the surrounding counties competed in the competition. Saint Genevieve School, was one of six elementary schools at the competition to represent the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

The SeaPerch/SeaGlide program and competition allows students the opportunity to develop technical skills necessary to be a successful engineer, enhances problem-solving skills, and encourages a team atmosphere. The competition is structured to give an overall experience in the engineering design process. This year's challenge was Nuclear Torpedo Recovery. Teams built a underwater ROV (remotely operated vehicle) that had to successfully complete complex challenges and maneuvers, in the Pool Performance Category. Teams were also judged on their presentation and product commercialization. Teams had to convey their engineering ideas and market their Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). Saint Genevieve School's team, The Water Cats consisted of thirteen students from Grades 5th-8th. The team researched naval engineering concepts, learned how engineers and other experts in the maritime industry provide creative solutions to help solve industry challenges. They worked as a team to develop and build their ROV.

The competition was very competitive, only the teams that scored the highest are invited to attend the American Society of Naval Engineers conference held at Drexel University on March 28-29, 2018.
