Man Charged In Strong-Armed Robbery At Roslyn Smoke Shop

Abington Police said a suspect is in custody following the incident on Tuesday in which an employee was injured.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A suspect has been charged in a strong-armed robbery at a Roslyn smoke shop in which an employee was injured on Tuesday, police said.

Abington Police responded at 4:39 p.m. on Tuesday to the Abington Smoke Shop at 1342 Easton Road in the township's Roslyn section for a report of a possible shooting inside the business.

Police officers found a store employee suffering from a head injury and spotted that a glass display case had been shattered.

The victim told police that a man entered the store with his face covered, assaulted him, broke the display case, and removed merchandise before fleeing the scene.

The victim was transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital for evaluation. It was later determined that the victim had been struck in the head with an object, which was identified as a river rock, police said.

Officers broadcast a description of the suspect, and responding units located a man matching the description in the area of Easton Road and Cross Road in Glenside.

Authorities took 22-year-old Zafir Taj Hill of Labelle, Pa., into custody.

He was found to be in possession of merchandise taken from the Abington Smoke Shop and was taken into custody without incident

.Hill was charged with Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and related offenses, police said.

He was transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, where he was arraigned by Judge Scott Palladino, his bail was set at $50,077.
