Temple Football Coach, AD Visit Abington Elementary School

ABINGTON, PA -- A sixth grader's writing exercise resulted in Temple University's head football coach and athletic director visiting Copper Beech Elementary School, the district said. AD Patrick Kraft and head football coach Geoff Collins were on hand at the school on Wednesday.

It all began when sixth grade teacher Alex Price gave his students an assignment: write a business letter to a professional individual, and mail it to them, hoping for a response.

Student Brian Donahue sent his letter to Kraft and Collins, and as a response, they decided to come in person to visit the school.

"They commented that Brian’s letter drew their attention with its skillful writing and message about his experiences with football, his kindness, his big heart and caring for others, and his intelligence," the school district said.

While in class, Kraft and Collins spoke to students about working hard in school.

“So much depends on academics and hard work; go for the A’s and B’s. Be passionate about it and good things will happen," Kraft said.

They also asked Brian who he would select for his team's staff if he was the head coach. Brian selected several of his classmates, but picked his younger brother, third-grader Charlie, to be the quarterback.
